Jean Valjean in the first 10 minutes of the movie: I only stole a loaf of bread
literally me for the rest of Les Miserables:
Fun fact! ^This line in Aladdin was a reference to Les Miserables. They had it because the girl who did the voice for Jasmine’s singing, Lea Salonga, played Eponine on broadway and is one of the most famous Eponines ever. She also went on to play Fantine and was the singing voice of Mulan

If you think abortions ok, remember what Horton says.
Awkward. Dr. Seuss and his wife were really liberal and pro-choice. They’ve even threatened to sue pro-life organizations for using this quote the wrong way (the way you’re doing it actually). I guess you didn’t already know that Horton Hears a Who is about the American occupation of Japan post-WWII. He even dedicated it to his dear Japanese friend.
Mrs. Geisel (Mrs. Seuss) continued donating to Planned Parenthood and advocating for reproductive health and rights after her husband died.

Last day of class! Conclusion: Kenneth Branagh makes good Shakespeare movies. Brit Lit teach let us loose into the wilds an hour early. Russian Hamlet movie is better than Olivier Hamlet. The lack of oedipal interpretation in Russian Hamlet is a huge improvement.
While yellowface representations may give us an externalized image to let us know what non-Asian Americans think of Asians and Asian Americans, it is not an Asian American self-representation. ‘Yellowface logics,’ then, are the logics that assume it is okay for the dominant mainstream to project an image of Asians and Asian Americans that it finds interesting, amusing, demeaning, off-putting, or simply worth projecting. It is the image projected outward for popular consumption, consideration, or discussion—the logic that privileges dominant stereotypes and representations over Asian and Asian American self-representations. The projection of yellowface logics offers up a mask of a people as a definition of the peoples themselves.

Yakan people, PhilippinesYakan people are among the major indigenous tribes in Mindanao. Having a significant number of followers of Islam, it is considered as one of the 13 Moro groups in the Philippines. There are also a good number of Christians in this tribe as a result of the conversion of the line of Datu Kalun - Ruler of the Island of the Basilan and the Yakans in Mindanao, to Christianity. The Yakans mainly reside in Basilan but are also in Zamboanga City, Philippines.

Varric secretly envies Orzammar, and doesn’t feel like a real dwarf himself. Will definitely have to disagree. Varric LOVES his life and the power he has being on the surface.
Wasn’t it his thing where while Bartrand romanticizes their heritage to the point of prioritizing it over their current lifestyle, Varric deals with what’s in front of him like his not-quite-there mother and what goes on in the guild when Bartrand doesn’t notice things?
Him not knowing about Orzammar and parts of his heritage doesn’t define him in the way that Bartrand does, but I can see that he’d feel some sense of loss not like, say, second generation immigrants.
Edit: not Unlike, I mean.
